Home Care Packages
In 2020, there are over 900 home care providers in Australia; helping older Australians with personal care, clinical care, transport, meals and gardening.
The Commonwealth Government's 'My Aged Care' will determine if you or your loved one is eligible for either the Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) or a Home Care Package (HCP).
It's then up to you as the consumer to select the home care provider to best suit your needs.
This can be a challenging and overwhelming task, as there is such a broad range of providers, all with different services and different fees.
Negotiating the right service agreement is critical to making the most of the home care funds you are provided with and to receiving the best care possible.
As Clinical Social Workers specialising in aged care, we work with home care providers on a daily basis. You can hire us as needed and on an hourly basis, to work alongside you to select and negotiate the best possible care outcome.
We encourage home care recipients to select providers and enter into negotiations as soon as possible, as current waitlists for Commonwealth government-subsidised home care is long. As of November 2019, the waitlist times to receive care were as follows:
Individuals and families often wait until a situation reaches crisis point, before trying to access home care. With the current waitlist times, this can turn a crisis situation into a care emergency. If you or someone you know may need some support in their home, we advise you start the process sooner rather than later.
We can work with you to help you determine the type of support you need, the best provider/s, assist with filling out paperwork and engage with relevant organisations.
